Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a process by which a peroxide based bleaching agent is applied to the surface of the teeth with the use of custom teeth trays. The bleach is left on for a specific amount of time (normally 30 minutes) and then removed.

While over-the-counter teeth whitening systems are a popular option, they are not as effective or as long lasting as professional teeth whitening performed by a cosmetic dentist like Dr. Huxford at Boulder Dental Group. Dr. Huxford does not promote teeth bleaching in one visit (Zoom). It can make teeth very sensitive and damage tooth structure.

Any number of factors can contribute to the discoloration of your teeth- from foods and beverages you consume to nicotine and tobacco. Other people are born with dark or blotchy teeth. Some can have staining from the use of medication such as tetracycline.

Whatever the reason, if you feel that your teeth are too dark, come on in to Boulder Dental Group and you can have a tooth shade guide test to see how dark or stained your teeth really are.

Tooth Restorations

Tooth restorations are the various ways we are able to repair, replace or restore damaged or missing teeth structure. Tooth structure can be missing due to decay (cavity) or fractured tooth.

The most common type of restoration is a filling which is most often done by using a composite material to match the color of your tooth. There are many other filling materials that can be used to restore a tooth. Dr. Huxford will explain which one he uses and why.

Many filling materials have small particles of fluoride which will help from getting a cavity under the filling. Dr. Huxford does not use amalgam or silver filling material.

Dental Crowns

Crowns

Crowns are full coverage restorations that are used to cover a tooth that is likley to break or is already broken. Also, a tooth that has a large filling due to cavities or a tooth with a root canal may need to be crowned.

Even after a filling is put in a large cavity, a tooth is more likely to break. Keep in mind that the jaw muscles are the strongest in the human body. Teeth are subjected to tremendous pressures. Crowns add strength to weakened teeth.

Crowns can be made of many materials such as, gold, porcelain, porcelain and gold or other materials. Dr. Huxford makes his crowns in one appointment. The E4D machine can take a picture of your tooth, and mill an exact replica in the office. In less than the time it takes to play a round of golf, you can have a brand new tooth with no metal that feels and looks better than ever. Veneers

Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is placed over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or smiling. The procedure can be direct or indirect.

Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is placed over the front and top of the tooth, but not the inside or tongue side.

Veneers are usually done to teeth that are visible when talking or smiling and they are mostly esthetic in nature as they can cover teeth that are colored, malformed or misaligned.

Veneers can only be done if the underlying tooth is healthy and enough tooth structures allows the placement of a veneer. The advantage of a veneer versus a crown is that less tooth material is removed to make a veneer.

Lumineers are a brand of veneer that are popular. Dr. Huxford does all types of veneers that can change the way you look.
